Jet Airways' returns to profit in first quarter
Leading private sector airlines, Jet Airways managed to revive itself and returned to profit in the first quarter of the year till June 2012.
The airline was able to post profits in the quarter after posting losses for five consecutive quarters. Jet Airways reported a net profit of Rs 24.7 crore compared to a loss of 123 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The company saw an increase in passenger revenues and in yields during the quarter.
The operating revenue of the company grew 29.5 per cent to Rs 4,587 crore in the June quarter. As a result the company's consolidated yield increased 16 per cent to 4.3 during this quarter from the same quarter of the previous year.
The total income of the company also saw an increase due to non-operating revenues of Rs 124 crore during the quarter till June 2012. The revenue includes sale and leaseback of aircraft, and income from non-ticket avenues.
The company has stopped services on loss making routes such as Sharjah-Trivandrum and Delhi-Colombo. The revenues rose by 31.5 per cent to Rs 4,711 crore during the quarter.
