Though Jet Airways has not yet cleared whether airline is inspired by foreign airlines for increasing fares. Jet Airways has issued a circular to all its travel agents, about the hike in rates. Reason for this hike in prices is quoted as "Increase in Fuel Surcharge" in the circular.
Fares have been increased in such a way that it will affect more long distance travelers. For travel up to 1,000 km, fuel surcharge will be Rs 100 more and for travel of more than 1000 km, fuel surcharge is increased by Rs 200. In the past couple of months, this is the second time that airline has hiked fuel surcharge.
On December 31, Jet and Kingfisher hiked prices for travel up to 750 km by Rs 100 and Rs 200 for travel more than 750 km. That hike was a response to hike in ATF rates by Rs 935 per kilolitre to Rs 47,816 per kl in affect from 31 December. Now, as a consequence of Jet Airways' action, Kingfisher and Air India are also plotting grounds to hike fares.
