Jet Airways gets 44.8% of increased seat allocations to Abu DhabiJet Airways has been awarded with lion's share of the total allocation of seats from the increased bilateral seats entitlements signed between India and Abu Dhabi.

Of the total increased seat allocations, Jet Airways has received 44.8 per cent; while rival carrier SpiceJet has received 28.2 per cent. Air India has received nearly 27 per cent of the total increased seats.

In total, 10,507 seats have been allocated among the three carriers. A senior official from the civil aviation ministry said that the newly allocated seats were for the winter schedule of current year and would run up to the summer schedule of next year.

The official added that it was from the first phase of seat allocations and there would be a total of three phases.

Speaking on the topic, the official said, "The increase in bilateral seats entitlements between India and Abu Dhabi is to come in three phases and the current allocation is from the first phase of increase."

Under the bilateral seats entitlements agreement between India and Abu Dhabi, the increase in seats is to be implemented over the next three years -- 11,000 seats a week this year, 12,800 seats a week up to the winter schedule of next year and 12,870 seats a week up to the winter schedule of 2015.

India and Abu Dhabi agreed to increase their weekly seat entitlements from 13,600 seats to a whopping 50,270 seats on April 24, just hours before Abu Dhabi's carrier Etihad decided to buy a 24 per cent stake in Jet Airways.
