Innovations made in India now more relevant in Europe: says Unilever chiefUnilever, the consumer goods multinational corporation that operates in India as Hindustan Unilever Ltd, has said that innovations made in India are now more relevant in other parts of the world such as Europe.

Unilever Chief Executive Paul Polman, who was in Bangalore on Thursday to inaugurate the company's global technology center, said that `learnings' from India, for instance lower price points for products in small sachets, was gaining more and more recognition in recession-hit Europe countries.

Speaking on the topic, Polman said, "In UK, we sell some of our best brands at a price point of one pound. People still want the best brands and now we can make it accessible to them."

Highlighting the significance of developing countries, Polman added that developing countries including India would contribute at least 75 per cent of the company's total revenues by the year of 2020.

Paulman also highlighted the success of Pureit - the affordable water purifying product. Pureit is wholly developed in India, and sold by the company in more than fifteen countries of the world. The chief claimed that the water purifying product have gained a great popularity several countries of the world.

Polman was in India to inaugurate the company's Bangalore-based 220,000 sq ft global technology centre, which will shoulder the responsibility of providing IT services and new ways of using technology to enhance its business. The new technology centre is the largest such facility for Unilever globally. Currently, it has a work force of around 1,400 people.
