Infosys wins legal battle in the US

Infosys wins legal battle in the USIndian IT services major, Infosys has won a law suit in the US state of Alabama after a federal judge threw away the case against the company fled y former employee Jay Palmer.

Palmer had alleged that the company was illegally using foreign workers on client projects. He also alleged in his lawsuit that he was harassed at work, sidelined and was even threatened because he did not agree to be part of a scheme that involved using people on B-1 visas for tasks that require an H-1B work visa.

Alabama federal Judge Myron Thompson said that the charges against the company are not covered under the laws of the state. The judge also said that the court's role is to determine if the actions were illegal under the state laws and it cannot rewrite state law.

"Without question, the alleged electronic and telephonic threats are deeply troubling. Indeed, an argument could be made that such threats against whistleblowers, in particular, should be illegal," wrote Thompson.

The judge concluded that Palmer has no right to recover from Infosys under the current laws in the state. Infosys is under a federal investigation and it has maintained that it has not done anything wrong.
