Infographic shows how bad McDonald’s Big Mac can be
A website Fast Food Menu Price, through its new infographic, claims to show what actually happens to body after a person eats McDonald’s signature sandwich, i.e. the Big Mac.
It has been known that sandwich probably is not the healthiest option for frequent consumption, the website through its infographic shows that the effects of eating the burger can be far worse than what we have been thinking.
The graphics claims that the burger’s high sodium content dehydrates the body, increases blood sugar and drastically slows down digestion. The website has divided the information in time intervals of what happens 10, 20, 30, 40 and 60 minutes after consuming the burger.
According to some experts major problem arises when people combine the burger with popular side choices like French fries, sugary drinks and desserts.
Rebecca Blake, MS, RD, CDN, director of clinical nutrition at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, said, “People are not ordering just a Big Mac — my concern is once you order the fries and soda to go with it, you’re in a whole different league of calories and fat”.
McDonald's UK told British website ‘The Independent’ that the facts presented in the infographic are misleading and bear no resemblance to the Big Mac available to customers in the UK.
They have been displaying nutritional information on all the items in the menu for over 30 years so it is a shame to see such inaccurate figures and information being circulated, it added.
The graphic also states that after 40 minutes of the consumption, the high fructose corn syrup in the Big Mac’s bun spike blood sugar levels, resulting in hunger pangs and a feeling of still not being satiated.
