Industry urges TANGEDCO to make contingency plan for post-wind season
Industry associations in the south of the country as urging the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) to make contingency plans for power sully n the post wind season.
Tamil Nadu looses between 2,000 MW and 3,000 MW in power generation after the wind season. TANGEDCO began load shedding as the wind slows in the region and the wind farms begin to produce lesser electricity.
The Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) has said that the industry body has been requesting TANGEDCO to prepare a contingency plans for power sully as wind energy is season and subject to weather patterns that are difficult to predict accurately.
Many believe that the only option at this time is to utilize captive power plants and diesel generators belonging to large industrial units. Industry players say that the state government must either purchase power from the unit at higher prices of subsidies them for diesel.
TANGEDCO officials have not provided any information about the availability of power, which could help small industries plan production schedule and avoid higher cost of production caused by erratic power supply.
The state government is aiming to get the entire power generation of first unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) and are also expecting an early commission of the new units at Mettur Thermal.
