Indians fancy 7-inch Android tablets: reportAndroid-based 7-inch tablets are attracting more buyers than other tablets in India, a report by Cyber Media Research (CMR) revealed.

Tablets having 7-inch screens accounted for 78 per cent of the total tablet computers sold in the July to September quarter in India, Google’s mobile operating system Android accounted for 91 per cent of those tablets.

The report also revealed that the average price of tablets sold in India was nearly Rs 13,200, but nearly two-thirds (63.5 per cent) of all those tablets were below the Rs 10,000-mark.

The report also estimated that India's tablet market would double to nearly six million units in 2013, mainly due to hiked enterprise adoption and launch of Windows 8-based devices.

Predicting a robust growth for the Indian tablet market, CMR said, “Over 100 per cent growth expected in 2013 as OEMs (original equipment manufacturer) eye India market for consumer, enterprise demand and government business.”

In the July to September quarter of 2012, the overall tablet sales were recorded at 1.1 million units, with South Korean electronics giant Samsung accounting for nearly a quarter of the total sales.

During the three-month period, Samsung topped the list by grabbing 23.9 per cent share of the Indian tablet market, while Micromax and Datawind followed with 15.3 per cent and 12.3 per cent shares, respectively.
