India is sure on nuclear energy, Kalam
While on the visit, APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President f India, said that the government in India is sure that nuclear energy is key to meeting future energy demands.
The remarks came after the China scrapped a ban on new nuclear projects over the fallout of Fukushima disaster in Japan. Chinese authorities approved constructing power plants in the country, moving ahead with its plans to build more nuclear power generation capability. China already operates 16 nuclear power reactors and has 26 more under construction. It recently approved the Nuclear Power Safety Plan from 2011-2020 following safety reviews that started in March.
Speaking aobut India's nuclear energy plans, he said that, "India has also come to the conclusion. We have got to generate 20,000 MW by 2020, so definitely India is going ahead. There is no doubt about it."
Meanwhile, Kalam has been invited by Peking University to teach the students in Bejing. Kalam received the invitation during his visit to the Beijing Forum from the Chairperson Zhu Shanlu of Peking University.
The Beijing Forum is an intellectual platform backed by the Chinese Government, Chinese Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Government. The Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Peking University, and Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies also support the event through sponsorship.
