India strikes another Gold medal at Commonwealth
India's tally of medals on the 5th day of the Commonwealth shooting championship reached 26 after Samaresh Jung, lived up to his reputation and bagged his second Gold on Monday.
At the Dr. Karni Singh shooting range near Tughlakabad Fort ruins, Samaresh Jung achieved this feat. In the final round of the 10m air pistol, Samaresh Jung made a new record, after being a little starter and being a little slow off the blocks. This is Samaresh's second gold on Monday.
India so far has won 12 gold 8 silver and 5 bronze medals, and standing in the first place, way ahead of England with 15 medals - 3 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 5 bronze, the third spot is taken by 10 medal holders Australia. He broke the record of England's Michael Gault. Jung shot an overall 685.3 (583+102.3) to break Gault's 681.5, set in 1999.
India could have bagged all the medals in this event but unfortunately Omkar Singh lost to Gault in the last two shots. Zakir Khan had earlier won a silver medal with 676.6 (576+100.6).
