India, Singapore to increase number of flightsThe government of India and Singapore have agreed to revise the air services agreement between the two countries in order to increase the total number of permitted flights between them.

At present, there are a total of 216 flights per week between India and Singapore and the expanded framework will allow airlines from both the countries to expand their services. Singapore Airlines is believed to be planning to increase its flights to 100 per week from 96 flights at present.

Singapore's Transport Ministry said in a statement that, "As demand for air services between both countries continue to grow, the bilateral air services agreement was enhanced to include more capacity entitlements. As part of the enhancement of the agreement, both countries also agreed to meet regularly to review air services matters."

The agreement was signed at an event attended by India's Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh and Singapore Transport Minister Liu Tuck Yew. Singh, who is holding a visit to the island nation from April 2 to 4, also discussed air transport issues with the Singaporean minister. He would also hold discussions with S Iswaran, Singapore's Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Trade & Industry and Home Affairs.
