India’s first woman photojournalist, Homi Vyarawalla, to get first Nano in Vadodara!

Homi VyarawallaThe very first owner of Tata Nano in Vadodara will be the 96-year old, first woman photojournalist of India - Homi Vyarawalla.

In rather interesting series of incidents, Vyarawalla, who had recently written a Rs 95,000 cheque for Tata's brand new wonder car, was told by officials from Tata Motors that she would be the first 'out-of-turn' Vadodara owner of the Nano, in July!

Vyarawala recently sold her five-and-a-half-decades-old original black Fiat to a Mumbai-based vintage car lover, as she was finding the maintenance of the Fiat difficult, and was also obsessed with the thought of possessing the small wonder. However, Vyarawala opted out of the Nano booking draw, feeling that age was going against her, and she might have to undergo a long wait for Nano in case her name did not appear in the first-phase draw of lots.

It was then that a team of Tata officials, on learning about her passion for the car, informed her that she would be the first person in the city with the Nano!

This photojournalist, who has clicked several Indian and foreign dignitaries in her time, has settled for a red Nano as her favorite black was unavailable. Taking the developments in her stride, the nonagenarian said: "This car is more like crutches for me given my age. I need a car to buy routine things and it was difficult walking on the road!"
