India can return to 7-8% growth rate in next 2-3 years: President Mukherjee
India can return to 7-8 per cent GDP growth rate in the next two to three years only if we improve investment, President Pranab Mukherjee said.
Speaking at a function organized to present the AIMA Managing India Awards 2013 in New Delhi on Thursday, Mr. Mukherjee said that reviving economic growth must be India's our top, and growth could be revived by improving investment.
The AIMA Managing India Awards are given to the people who excel in their fields. The main objective of these awards is to promote management in all spheres of life.
The President of India said, "It is possible for us to re-enter the 7-8 per cent growth bracket in the next two to three years. But for that, we must revitalise investments in the country."
He added that India could achieve even a higher growth rate of 9 per cent, but for that there was a need to enhance macro-economic parameters, such as inflation, current account deficit (CAD) and fiscal balance.
The arte of India's GDP growth slipped from 9.3 per cent in the financial year 2010-11 to an estimated rate of just 5 per cent in 2012-13. CAD reached an all-time high of 6.7 per cent of the country's GDP in the three months to December last year.
