IBM Opens ‘Centre’ For Disabled
New Delhi: IBM India has opened up a Human Ability and Accessibility Centre to make technology and information easily accessible to those having visual, cognitive and motor disabilities.
The center, situated at India Research Lab in New Delhi, will cater to the various needs of Indian accessibility stakeholders such as government bodies, business houses, educational institutions, research workers and NGOs.
While lecturing at après meeting, Shanker Annaswamy, IBM Managing Director (India and South Asia) told that the new centre would offer up approachable technologies to show up the importance of the unused talent pool of people with disabilities.
He said that IBM will contribute a lot to raise their overall quality of life.
“India faces a growing need for inclusive development that fundamentally depends on addressing social, economic and physical disadvantages and create opportunities for every individual to realise the potential of their abilities. Globally, and in India, IBM champions accessibility needs by bringing technologies and innovations that empower the differently-abled and socially disadvantaged through initiatives such as the human ability and accessibility centre,” Mr. Annaswamy said.
He also said that IBM had already built up a few modern solutions including easy web browsing for those who are visually impaired, “WebAdopt2Me” for those with cognitive impairments or low vision, disability simulator “IBM aDesigner”, Hindi speech recognition and English assessment tool “Sensei”.
