“I Would Have Loved To Play Bond”: Angelina Jolie

Hollywood queen Angelina Jolie has disclosed the reason behind refusing to play the role of ‘Bond Girl’ in Casino Royale. Well, the Mr and Mrs Smith star was more interested to play the 007 spy rather than playing his girl.

In 2005, Jolie was considered to play the ‘Bond Girl’ in the Daniel Craig starrer Bond movie, with whom she worked in the movie Tomb Raider.

Recalling a meeting with the co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Amy Pascal, the 35 year old star said, “In that lovely chat, I conveyed them that I would prefer to play Bond. At that time, it was not possible for me to play the ‘Bond Girl’ as I was pregnant. The idea playing a spy, remained in Amy’s mind and she called me later and said, ‘I think I have found it’.”

The ‘it’ was Salt, a 2010 movie, in which Angelina was offered the role of a CIA officer. The role was originally sketched for a male actor. Later, they reworked on the script to convert the protagonist into a female CIA agent, accused of being a Russian sleeper spy.

Jolie added, “In this kind of film, usually the female actresses behave like typical females but in this film we wanted to ignore the fact. Here, the protagonist is just ‘Salt’ and she will not be using her sexuality to take any benefit.”

In this movie, Jolie has done most of the stunts herself. Apart from English, the movie will also release in three Indian languages Hindi, Tamil and Telugu on July 23.
