Hyundai’s workers dispute may get a decision soon
It has recently been learned from the sources that the labour department of Tamil Nadu government may decide on the reinstatement of 35 dismissed workers of Hyundai Motor India in the next few days. It is to be mentioned here that Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU) and the Hyundai Motor India have submitted their views on the issue to a review committee. HMIEU President Edison Periera recently said that two representatives from the management have submitted their views in front of the committee, while a final decision is expected by the 18th of August. It may easily be recalled here that the management and HMIEU had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June in the presence of Labour Minister T. M. Anbarasan.
In fact, the production at the Chennai plant of the company came to a halt in June after workers went on sit-in strike demanding reinstatement of all the dismissed workers and recognition of their union.
However, there is still a possibility that the decision may get postponed if the labour commissioner asks for more time to arrive at a conclusion.
