Hyundai halts production due to strike

Hyundai halts production due to strikeIn less than a year, the labour unrest issue that had hit the second largest passenger car player in the Indian market, Hyundai motors India is back again after a handful of workers went on a flash strike demanding the reinstatement of 67 dismissed workers last year.

While just 150 of the total 10,000 workers went on strike, but the company decided to halt production as it was unsure of quality that can be maintained in a labour unrest situation. The company is notably the largest exporter of passenger cars in the Indian market and it makes over 2000 units every day out of its Chennai plant.

Experts are of a view that if the situation remains the same for the company, it will leave no option for Hyundai other than looking for an alternative production site.

In fact, Hyundai has been facing labour issues at its Chennai plant on a regular basis. It may be noted here that Hyundai also tried for an out of court settlement with the employees and had reinstated a couple of them while was in discussion with many others.
