Hundreds of Egyptians protest death of farmer

CairoCairo- Hundreds of farmers demonstrated near the southern Egyptian town of Qena over the death Monday of a 60-year-old farmer by a hit-and-run driver, security sources said.

Around 500 demonstrators shouted and burned tyres in the highway through the town, complaining about the lack of road bumps to slow down traffic through the area.

Accidents are common in the Qena highway due to inadequate road facilities. Farmers in nearby villages have asked the Egyptian government to build road bumps in the road to prevent accidents. (dpa)
