HMSI takes over TVS Motors

HMSI takes over TVS MotorsWhile it hasn't been much time since the 100% subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Honda Motor Corporation made its way in the Indian market with HMSI, the company has been able to reach the third spot in the motorcycles sales in the Indian market.

The sales of mopeds have been the saving grace for TVS Motors which has kept it at the third spot in the Indian two-wheelers market but HMSI sold 58,041 units in the motorcycle category compared with TVS Motor's 49,008 units making it the third player after Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto.

As far as the scooters segment is concerned, HMSI, the current leader, zoomed ahead in volumes with 71,477 units while TVS Motor sold 25,159 units.

However, as mentioned earlier, it was in the mopeds category that TVS Motors took lead as the company sold 51,829 units compared with 40,915 units a year ago. It may be noted here that no other two-wheeler major has presence in the moped segment currently apart from TVS Motors. However, the home-grown auto major is planning to make a comeback in the motorcycle category and has recently launched the Jive in the Indian market.
