Gurgaon court’s next hearing in Telenor-Uninor case scheduled for Sept. 4

Gurgaon court’s next hearing in Telenor-Uninor case scheduled for Sept. 4Norway's Telenor on Tuesday moved to the Punjab & Haryana High Court against the Gurgaon court ruling that Telenor can bid for auction of spectrum only in association with Uninor.

The Punjab & Haryana High Court directed the Gurgaon district court to finalize its proceedings before 20th of September regarding Telenor Group's participation in the auction of spectrum.

On a petition by Unitech, the district court of Gurgaon had barred Telenor from participating in the spectrum auction to be conducted by the government agencies for fresh allotment of licenses, other than through Unitech Wireless, which operates under the brand name Uninor.

A spokesperson for Telenor said, "Next hearing in Gurgaon district court will be on September 4. We will continue to argue our case in court.”

Telenor owns 67.25 per cent stake in Unitech Wireless. The remaining 32.75 per cent stake in the company is owned by realty firm Unitech.

The association between the two partners got stressed following the cancellation of 122 licences, including 22 of Uninor, by the Supreme Court. Telenor now wants to ditch Unitech and participate in the spectrum auction with a new partner.
