Govt. aims to check corruption & improve welfare measures with e-cash scheme
With a sincere aim to check corruption and wastage, the government is going to launch a scheme for direct electronic transfer of cash to beneficiaries that will reportedly cover around a quarter of households of the country.
The government says that with the quick rollout of Aadhar cards, which will likely reach 60 crores, and with the National Population Register (NPR) covering the remaining population, direct electronic transfer of cash scheme has become possible.
To accelerate the implementation of the ambitious electronic cash transfers, the prime minister has instituted a coordination mechanism, under which a national ministerial committee comprised of ministers and secretaries of all concerned with cash transfers.
A press release by the office of prime minister said, "This is to be done in a fast-track, accelerated mode to be achieved in a time-bound manner. The idea is to move to a completely electronic Cash Transfer System for the entire population."
An electronic cash transfer system, which can be very helpful in transferring cash benefits such as pensions, scholarships and rural job scheme wages, is expected to benefit the poor in particular.
Electronic sash transfer system will eliminate waste, reduce corruption, control expenditure as well as facilitate much-needed reforms.
