Government thinking to form safety board for air crash control

Government thinking to form safety board for air crash control To prevent all accidents including air crash, the government is thinking to give total independence to the DGCA as the aviation regulatory body. The Autonomous safety board will be acting similar to the US national safety board
(NTSB) Pattern, where roles of investigator and Regulator will be separate.

This has been stated by civil aviation Minister Praful Patel. The NTSB in the US investigates all major accidents, including air crashes, accidents on road or at sea. It also guides different other countries to check accidents. Recently, it had sent a team of investigators to India after Mangalore air crashes on May 22.

The Minister stated that we have had an awful accident. We should not be now found lacking on any front. We will do everything essential to ensure an orderly expansion of aviation in the country. The prospect is very high as the sector is growing now days. After addressing the first meeting of the Civil Aviation Safety Advisory Council (CASAC), set up within a week of the Mangalore air crash, he has said that Government will definitely consider granting full autonomy to the DGCA and empower it to independently carry out its work as a regulator of Indian aviation.
