UP government dismisses suggestions that it caused blackout

UP government dismisses suggestions that it caused blackoutThe government in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has said on Monday that it is not responsible for the grid failure earlier that caused a blackout in 22 states.

Senior officials from the state government said in a meeting with the officials of the power ministry and states linked to the northern grid, that the grid failure was not because the state was overdrawing power. They said that gird failure on Monday and again on Tuesday was not because of overdrawing by the UP authorities from the northern grid.

Principal secretary, energy, Anil Kumar Gupta said, "At the meeting we reiterated that the grid failure wasn't caused by UP. We also emphasised that the power crisis was caused because UP wasn't being given adequate coal to run the existing power plants. Though we have short, medium and long term plans for increasing our production capacity, they depend heavily on the supply of coal from the Centre."

Officials are asking for adhering to the grid discipline at all costs in order to avoid more grip collapses.

The second major power grid failure affected the northern Indian region on Tuesday afternoon after a similar failure troubled residents on the early hours of Monday until Tuesday morning.

Power Ministry officials had said that the Eastern Grid had also failed adding to the problems faced by the people in the northern part of the country. Reports suggested said that ten states have been affected by the power outage.
