Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that government is doing its best to arrest food inflation and is also encouraging imports of essential commodities such as sugar, edible oil and pulses.

Mr. Mukherjee informed that all state governments have been asked to strengthen public distribution system to protect the poor from adverse impact of rising prices.

Government has been keeping an eye on the global economic scenario and would continue to support industry till recovery of Europe and the US markets.

The minister added, "We shall have to wait for some more time before we take any decision to reverse the stimulus package."

Mukherjee said that all G-20 countries agreed to continue with the economic stimulus package till the economic recovery in Europe and North America. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will attend the G-20 summit in Pittsburg on September 24 and 25 to discuss next course of action to revive global economy.
