Google kick starts its annual Science Fair
Internet search giant, Google has started registrations for its annual Science Fair that is aimed at finding the next generation of scientists and engineers.
The company has partnered with CERN, the LEGO Group, National Geographic, and Scientific American for the popular annual contest, which is being organised for the third time this year. The company said that it will receive entries until April 30 at 11:59 pm Pacific time and the entries are being accepted in 13 languages.
Sam Peter, a member of the Google Science Fair Team, wrote in a blog that, "For the past two years, thousands of students from more than 90 countries have submitted research projects that address some of the most challenging problems we face today."
He added that the company is expecting even more entries this year and it hopes to inspire more young people to carry out scientific exploration. Google will shortlist 90 regional finalists by June, which will include 30 finalists each for the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe/Middle East/Africa. The final 15 participants will be brought to the company's headquarters in Mountain View, California in the US for the event on 23 September, 2013.
The winners of the Google Science Fair will receive prizes including a $50,000 scholarship, a trip to the Galapagos with National Geographic Expeditions, experiences at CERN, Google, or the LEGO Group, and digital access to the Scientific American archives for the winner's school for a year.
