Godrej focusing on the bottom of pyramid
The future lies at the bottom of the pyramid, CK prahlad the great economist, once rightly quoted. Godrej Group's Chairman Adi Godrej seemed to have read this lately and has announced that Godrej Properties will now be focusing on low-cost housing in various cities and look to capture the rural markets, he informed on Friday.
Joining hands with land owners, by either sharing revenue from sales or space developed Godrej properties has adopted an entire new business model. 'Godrej properties' is one of the few listed companies of the Godrej group. Over the coming 5 years they are expected to invest Rs. 2000 crore in Bangalore alone bye developing a variety of houses ranging from a mid-level to low-level to some commercial space as well.
'Low-cost housing' for Godrej would mean houses costing less than Rs. 20 lakh. Banks which were usually reluctant to fiancé such houses have now started showing interest after the entry of brand names like Godrej. If any additional capital is required the company would come up with a follow on public issue, but will think about it only 2 years hence.
