Gilchrist warns against day-night Test Matches

Gilchrist warns against day-night Test MatchesFormer Australian wicket-keeper has warned over the issue of day-night test matches as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has cleared the way for first ever day-night test match which will be played next year.

In the ICC board meeting at Lord's, it was confirmed that a day-night Test match could be tried out next year if all the factors associated with it were feasible.

While delivering his speech at the Cowdrey Lecture at Lord's, Gilchrist said that they should not alter any rules, customs and playing conditions of the Test cricket and this should be played as it was played 130 years ago.

Gilchrist had earlier played in a trail day-night test match which was played in domestic cricket in Australia during the mid-1990s in the Sheffield Shield and fluorescent orange balls were used in that match.

Gilchrist said that the trial day-night test match had failed as it led to an "unfair contest" and he insists ICC to test such innovations in the shorter formats of the cricket rather than in the test matches.
