Getting jiggy with it
Bachata Bachata is a Latin folk dance. Priti Gupta of Dance Sports India who teaches this form says, "Bachata is actually a kind of music, and a dance routine developed as a result of it. It was a peasant dance, which slowly gained popularity all over the world." According to her, this dance is meant for people from all age groups as it is quite simple, and the best part is that one doesn't need to go through a long course to learn it! "A workshop of two-three days is enough to learn the basics," says Preeti.
Pasodoble Pasodoble literally means two steps. It's a Latin-American dance that takes its inspiration from bull fights. Sandip Soparrkar says, "Pasodoble is meant for those who are passionate about dancing. It is a competitive dance form that involves complicated, but very beautiful movements." Priti adds, "In this dance form, the male is the matador, while the female plays three roles - the cheer leader, the inanimate red cloth and the bull as well. The woman shifts from one character to another while performing."
Flamenco Unlike the other two dances, where men lead, in this dance both sexes have equal roles to play. Priti says, "This dance from Southern Spain deals with women's emotions and various moods like solitude, sadness, playfulness etc. It is a gypsy dance and people say that it has its roots in India. The dance is very therapeutic."
Krump-Hop This one is for people who like to sweat it out. The popular hip-hop is mixed with rigorous krump. Melvin Louis explains, "This dance is meant for people who are in the age group of 15 to 30 years. And people above 30 who are fit enough can also learn this dance. The combination is a very effective full body workout as well. It especially targets the abs, calves and helps burn oodles of calories. d_riddhi@dnaindia.net
