German women capture final biathlon relay, season title
Whistler, British Columbia - The German team trounced the field Saturday at the final women's 4x6-kilometre relay of the biathlon World Cup season to earn the this winter's title.
It was the second victory of the season for the Germans. Defending champions Russia were third on Saturday.
Magdalena Neuner and Andrea Henkel shot perfectly, while Kati Wilhelm missed once and Martina Beck used five extra rounds, good enough as a team to avoid the penalty loop.
The German women completed the course in one hour, 11 minutes, 49.8 seconds to capture the crystal globe champion trophy.
China was 1:15.2 behind in second place. Xue Dong was perfect on the shooting range, while her three teammates combined to use five spare rounds.
Defending champions Russia were 1:50.5 off the pace, forced to take a penalty loop after missing 12 shots. (dpa)
