German business leaders in Jordan for "green" trade talks

Amman - Jordanian and German business leaders met in Amman Tuesday to look into means for boosting bilateral cooperation and trade - particularly in the field of "green" technologies.

The German contingent accompanied Premier of the State of Saxony- Anhalt Wolfgang Bohmer, currently on a visit to Jordan.

Bohmer told the meeting his state was a global leader in the fields of agriculture, education, renewable energy, water desalination and fighting desertification.

Jordanian Minister of Trade and Industry Amer Hadidi said: "Germany is Jordan's key trade partner from among the European Union countries."

Latest trade figures show Germany in the third place after Saudi Arabia and China in the list of exporters to the Jordanian market.

Hadidi said German exports to Jordan were worth about 1 billion dollars in 2008, compared with only 11 million dollars in Jordanian exports to Germany. dpa
