Ronaldo hopes for Rio comeback, considers quitting if fitness flags

Rio de Janeiro  - Brazilian football superstar Ronaldo said he wants to make his comeback from injury at his hometown club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro next year.

"If everything works out, I'd like to play there," the 32-year-old who has been on the bench for more than eight months said Monday night on the sports talk show Bem Amigos on Brazilian television.

"Flamengo is in pole position," said Ronaldo, who added that he has also received interest from European clubs Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. "... Flamengo is my dream."

But Ronaldo did not rule out hanging up his football shoes in 2009.

Moderate use of type 2 diabetes drugs prevents treatment failure

Washington, Oct 28 : A new study has found that drugs widely used to treat type 2 diabetes can have long-term effects if they are used in moderation.

The research team from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis said that efficacy of drugs, sulfonylureas, used to treat type 2 diabetics substantially declines after several years of use, causing insulin secretion to shut down.

"Why this happens isn''t clear yet, but we''ve found what may be cause for hope," said senior author Colin G. Nichols, Ph. D., the Carl F. Cori Professor and professor of cell biology and physiology.

Jennifer Hudson’s missing nephew found shot dead in SUV

Washington, October 28 : Jennifer Hudson’s seven-year-old nephew, who went missing from the singer’s residence after her mother and brother were found murdered, was found shot dead in the rear seat of a SUV.

The Oscar-winning actress, along with her family and friends, identified the body of Julian King who had reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The police had issued an Amber Alert for Julian, who was believed to have been abducted, after an unidentified assailant fatally shot Hudson''s mother Darnell and brother Jason.

His body was found in the back seat of a SUV, parked across the street on Chicago''s West Side on October 27.

US ready for first Black President, finds global UK survey

Barack Obama, John McCainLondon, Oct 28 : Seventy four percent UK citizens think that the United States is ready for a Black president, a survey has found.

The Reader’s Digest survey found 70 percent of those in the UK favoured Democrat Barack Obama over his Republican rival John McCain and 74 percent thought the US was ready for its first Black president.

In the UK, 17 percent of respondents said they were pro-American, 72 percent neutral and 10 percent anti-American.

Man sues Oz state govt over phobia of “young Asian men”

Sydney, Oct 28 : A former high school student of Lebanese descent, who developed a phobia of “young Asian men” after allegedly being stabbed at school, is suing the New South Wales Government for negligence.

The 26-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons as he “feared for his life”, after he was stabbed in the playground in an allegedly racially motivated attack at Birrong Boys High School in 1998.

The man, whose name was suppressed in the District Court today by Judge Len Levy, is suing the NSW Department of Education for breach of duty of care.

N Korea threatens to turn S Korea into ‘debris’

Melbourne, Oct 28 : North Korea today threatened to turn South Korea into “debris” unless Seoul stops what it described as a policy of confrontation.

“The puppet authorities had better bear in mind that the advanced preemptive strike of our own style will reduce everything ... to debris, not just setting them on fire,” the North Korea’s military said.

“It will turn out to be a just war... to build an independent reunified state on it,”'' it added.

The North warned that its army would take a resolute practical action if the South continues its “confrontational racket,”'' scattering anti-Pyongyang leaflets and conducting a smear campaign with sheer fabrications.
