The NHS budget has doubled in the past five years, from £45bn to £90bn, the fastest growth in its history. While some NHS workers have enjoyed a pay bonanza, it has not been spread evenly. The biggest rises have gone to doctors, with senior GPs who run their own practices enjoying rises of 58 per cent on average in the three years from 2003 – an average income of £113,614.

The NHS bosses have been accused of “double standards” for getting huge pay hikes while frontline staff took an effective cut.

Jammu, Nov 16 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Sunday alleged that the ex-Governor of the state Lieutenant General (Retd) S. K. Sinha had close links with Malegaon blast mastermind Dayanand Pandey and demanded a thorough investigation in the matter.

Mufti was addressing a press conference at his residence in Jammu today.

The former Chief Minister also alleged that, “Especially the institute of the Governor has been misused by General Sinha. As the person who is the master mind behind Malegaon blast and has been arrested and is under detention was Governor''s guest in 2007.” 

Researchers say in the British Medical Journal that guidelines on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) should be updated in light of the recent findings that older 'overlooked' treatments - using fiber, antispasmodic drugs, and peppermint oil - may end up being the best option for IBS patients.

The Times reports claim that introduction of 'presumed consent' for the donation of vital organs is to be rejected by the UK government's Organ Donation Taskforce, thereby aiming to give the recent reform of the existing system a chance to work. The taskforce was set up in 2007 to explore ways of boosting transplants across the UK.

Tel Aviv/Gaza City - Israel killed four Palestinian militants in an airstrike near Gaza City Sunday morning, hours after Palestinians launched rockets at Israeli border towns.

In a further indication that a five-month-old truce between Israel and the Gaza militias is fast collapsing, Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert said he has ordered the military to submit a plan to "restore full quiet to the south", and the Islamist Hamas movement, which controls the Gaza Strip, said it would "respond heavily to any Zionist offensive or attacks against our people."

Jammu, Nov 16 : Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and People''s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on Sunday said to resolve Kashmir problem concede something to the people of Kashmir.

Sayeed was addressing a news conference in Jammu today ahead of the seven-phase polling, which will begin from November 17, and end on December 24.
