Oxfam bid to protect women in Pak

Islamabad, Nov 25 : International relief organization Oxfam and its allies of the “We Can Campaign” have reportedly planned 1000 events across Pakistan at district level to mark the ‘International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women’.

Spread over 127 days from November 25, 2008, the 1000 events will include seminars, rallies, fun fairs, interactive dialogues and meetings with community members, theatrical performances, debates in educational institutions and much more, reported the Daily Times.

The events would take place in districts where the incidence of gender-based violence is high, added the paper.

The acclaimed writer Deepak Verma has put the finishing touches to a musical version of the novel, which is set in the wilds of the Yorkshire moors, transposing the quintessentially Yorkshire love tale to the deserts of Rajasthan and swapping Victorian snobbery for India''s strict caste system.

Verma and the Tamasha theatre company are collaborating on the project, which will debut at the Oldham Coliseum next March before touring Britain.

NASA astronauts may soon visit a nearby asteroid

London, Nov 25 : A new report by a high-level panel of experts has praised the idea of sending NASA astronauts to visit a nearby asteroid.

According to New Scientist, the US National Research Council (NRC) report, titled “Launching Science: Science Opportunities Provided by NASA’s Constellation System,” was written by a committee chaired by George Paulikas, a retired executive for the Aerospace Corporation, a think tank based in El Segundo, California.

The report has high praise for a proposal to send astronauts to a nearby asteroid, or near-Earth object (NEO).
