Washington, Dec 23 : A new research has suggested plants that are genetically modified to ease the breaking down of their woody material, could be the key to producing a cheaper and greener way of making biofuels such as ethanol.
Lignin, a major component of woody plant material, is woven in with cellulose and provides plants with the strength to withstand strong gusts of wind and microbial attack.
However, this protective barrier or "plastic wall" also makes it harder to gain access to the cellulose.
Washington, Dec 23 : A new study has revealed that only 3 percent of kids' meals, served at fast-food restaurants in the US meet federal dietary guidelines.
The researchers from Michigan State University and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston assessed the nutritional status of kids' meals in the Houston market.
The small percentage of meals that did meet dietary guidelines included fruit as a side dish and milk, and nearly all were deli-sandwich meals.
They also had about one-third the fat, one-sixth the added sugars, twice the iron and three times the amount of vitamin A and calcium.
Melbourne, Dec 23 : Australian cricket coach Tim Nielsen has said that the team will consider entering the crucial Boxing Day Test against South Africa without a specialist spinner.
Australia has the options of playing four fast bowlers in Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle and debutant Ben Hilfenhaus, or selecting a traditional attack of three quicks and spinner Nathan Hauritz.
Nielsen said he favoured the idea of playing a spinner, but would not guarantee Hauritz a start until the Australians had assessed the conditions closer to the game.
Melbourne, Dec 23 : Cricket fans behaving badly at the Boxing Day Test will face ejection and hefty fines, police have warned.
Police numbers will be beefed up during the Test and on-the-spot fines will be handed out for troublemakers ejected from the ground.
The Age reported that 227 dollars penalty notices would also be issued for using obscene language, threatening or insulting words, and poor behaviour.
Victoria Police Superintendent Stephen Leane urged people planning to drink alcohol to leave their cars at home.
"We want people to enjoy themselves and have a good time, but we don't want people drinking in excess and spoiling the day for others," Superintendent Leane said.

According to reports, the catwalk queen invited Alexandra last week to the bash, but later on she was snubbed by Kate, who did not bother to give her any details about the party.
Finally Alexandra chose to party with mentor Cheryl Cole.
On the other hand, Moss was ditched by many of her friends, who didn't turn up at her bash, hardly 20 of 40 big name invitees showed up.
