Foot-and-mouth disease spreads in Vietnam

VietnamHanoi- A senior government official on Tuesday blamed illegal cattle imports and mistakes by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease that has so far spread to five provinces.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Diep Kinh Tan said the outbreak had been caused in part by farmers who illegally imported cattle and buffalo infected with the highly contagious virus from Cambodia and Laos.

Historian claims Stonehenge has Armenian linksLondon, Feb 10 : A historian has suggested a link between the Stonehenge and an ancient circle of standing stones known as Carahunge in Armenia, which predates the historic site in England.

According to a report in the Salisbury Journal, the historian in question is Vardan Levoni Tadevosyan, an Armenian/Spanish historian of the occult who visited Salisbury to raise the profile of Carahunge, dubbed the Armenian Stonehenge.

"It's a very important monument, not just for Armenia, but for the whole world," he said.

Nordic banking groupStockholm - Nordic Banking Group Nordea on  Tuesday said it would strengthen its capital base by 3 billion euros (3.89 billion dollars), by offering a 2.5-billion-euro rights issue and lowering its dividend.

The announcement was made as the bank released its fourth quarter 2008 results in which operating profits dropped 28 per cent to 781 million euros.

Total operating income in the quarter increased 5 per cent to 2.25 billion euros, while loan losses totalled 320 million euros in the quarter. The losses were mainly attributed to Denmark, but also to other Nordic markets and the Baltic states, Nordea said.
