Italy's lawmakers discuss "living wills" in wake of woman's death

ItalyRome- Following the controversial death of Eluana Englaro, a comatose woman at the centre of a right-to-die debate in Italy, lawmakers said Tuesday they would seek to introduce legislation on so-called "living wills".

Proposals mentioned differ in the extent to which people could use such documents to specify before their death what type of medical treatment they wish to receive.

The documents would be used in the event of a person falling into a permanent vegetative state, like Englaro's, and losing the ability to communicate their wishes.

Rihanna postpones Malaysian concert after assault allegations

rihannaKuala Lumpur - R&B superstar Rihanna has delayed a planned concert in Malaysia this week, following reports that she accused boyfriend and fellow performer Chris Brown of assault, a news report said Tuesday.

Rihanna, a Grammy award winner, was due to perform in the capital Kuala Lumpur on February 13 as part of her Good Girl Gone Bad world tour, but organizers confirmed Tuesday that the show has been postponed.

Local organisers Pineapple Concerts said in a statement that Rihanna's management would confirm a replacement date within two weeks.

Abu Dhabi fund may buy in to trouble German industrial group

Arab World MapBerlin - Schaeffler, the struggling German automotive parts group, may receive an investment offer from a sovereign investor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a German newspaper reported Tuesday.

Schaeffler, originally a maker of ball bearings, controls Continental, the bigger German group that makes tyres and electronic parts. It has asked its own staff to go without pay rises as it struggles against a crushing level of debt.

UNAIDS chief says 25 billion dollars needed despite economic crisis

HIV/AIDS Johannesburg - The new head of the United Nations AIDS agency on Tuesday called for global spending on HIV/AIDS programmes to be nearly doubled, but acknowledged that securing 25 billion dollars in the current economic climate would "not be easy."

Speaking in Khayelitsha, a sprawling township outside Cape Town, UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibe said: "We cannot let the economic crisis paralyze us.

"We cannot let down the 4 million people on treatment and millions more in need today."

Venues and schedule confirmed for ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier

ICC LogoDubai, Feb. 10 : The ICC today confirmed the schedule for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009 to take place from 1 to 19 April in South Africa.

With three ODI venues being used, including Willowmoore Park in Benoni and Potchefstroom for group and Super Eight matches and Centurion for the final on 19 April, the event will enjoy first-class facilities.

In total there are nine venues being used for 54 matches played over 19 days with 12 teams fighting it out for the four qualification places on offer in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
