Chandauli (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 21 : A major accident was averted in the wee hours of Saturday morning, when the Patna-bound Rajdhani Express came to a sudden halt after pantry car of the train caught fire near the Karman Station in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident, which happened at around 3:30 a. m. due to a short circuit in the pantry has led to a disruption of the train services on the Mugalsarai-Patna route.

The pantry coach has been completely burnt. However, passengers have escaped unarmed.

Chennai, Mar 21: President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil said on Saturday that terrorism poses a great threat to global peace and should be dealt with firm determination.

Speaking at the passing out parade at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai this morning, Patil said that India has been a victim of terrorist attacks and modern warfare must necessarily incorporate measures to counter terrorism activities in the country.

Patil agreed on the need of latest technological advancements in arms and weapons.

Washington, Mar. 21 : In a bid to facilitate intense engagement in the economy and promote Pakistan's counterinsurgency policies, the Obama administration may triple development aid to Islamabad, while attaching some conditions to enhancement of military assistance.

US President Barack Obama is yet to unveil his fresh strategy on Afghanistan, a presidential source told The News that non-military aid to Pakistan could rise to three times of the current 450 million dollars a year, and guaranteeing it for at least five and potentially ten years.

London, March 21 : Natasha Richardson, who died in a skiing accident in Canada, had reportedly refused to wear a 6-pound rented helmet, which could have averted the tragedy.

The Oscar-winning actress had met with an accident and suffered a head injury during a private ski lesson at Mont Tremblant resort on March 16.

The 45-year-old had initially showed no signs of injury but later complained of a headache, and was admitted to the Hospitalier Laurentien.
