Use simple language, correct grammar in English paper

The paper of English is as important as of other subjects. Students need to take it seriously and keep in mind that a good score in this subject will help them in future.

Section A of the paper has questions based on comprehension and note making.

In comprehension, students should read the passage quickly, focus on the main ideas and their sequence. Thereafter, they should locate the answers of the questions in the passage. Students should restrain from copying the answers verbatim from the passage.

CBSE launches health manual

The schools of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in the city are going the ‘holistic health’ way, as the comprehensive school health manuals will be taught in the schools from April 1.

The manuals are designed on the guidelines of the CBSE and World Health Organisation and they will be the part of the school curriculum. These manuals will be taught as a part of physical education.

Performance must determine appraisals

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has put forward certain measures conducted for the appraisal of college lecturers. The terms are that teachers be  present at the colleges for five hours every day and the leave be brought down from 10 to eight days. The guide suggests that parents should use light and informal moments, such as when watching TV, rather than sitting teenagers down for a "big talk".

According to the leaflet, the purpose of this approach is to encourage openness and honesty.

Muslim schools urging pupils to despise Britain

London, Feb. 20: A number of Muslim schools are promoting Islamic extremism and encouraging pupils to grow up despising Britain, a think tank report has claimed.

Youngsters are discouraged from playing cricket and board games, listening to western music and even reading Shakespeare plays or Harry Potter books by fanatics targeting classrooms, the research says.

Some children are even being told to shun "the evil system of western culture" and encouraged to live in "ghettos".

The vile diktats appear on school websites or on other Internet sites linked directly to school sites and operated by fundamentalist groups.

160 new Tamil schools to be built in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Feb. 17: About 160 new Tamil schools will be built across Malaysia, while 50 or 60 more which are facing problems will be refurbished within a year, The Star reports.

Human Resources Minister and MIC secretary-general S. Subramaniam said this after attending a dinner for the Yong Peng Tamil School building fund organised by the party's Yong Peng division.

"The MIC will always act as the guardian of Tamil schools and will look into solving problems faced by them," Dr Subramaniam said.

He called on the Indian community to cast aside differences and work towards progress for the community because a united voice could be heard louder.
