Frist flight lands at new domestic terminal of Chennai airport
Authorities have opened the new domestic terminal of Chennai airport and it received the first flight on Thursday from Port Blair.
The Go Air flight from Port Blair to Chennai landed at the airport on Thursday afternoon and passengers walked out at 1.15pm. The new air terminal was a surprise to the tourists, traders and residents alike who were present at the site. Several senior level officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and airlines were present to supervise the operations today.
The new terminal handled one flight today and others from Go Air and SpiceJet will start using the new facility from Thursday. Jet Airways passengers will be able to sue the new terminal from Saturday. Airport Director K. Srinivasa Rao said that the there are plans to build a separate domestic terminal for arrivals with three bays at the airport.
Meanwhile, D. Devaraj, Regional Executive Director (SR), AAI, Chennai said that the AAI will work on modification of the old airport terminal building and convert it into an Integrated Cargo Complex. AAI will carry on the modification work with an investment of Rs. 1 crore. The plan for the medication has already been approved and the funds are available.
