Finland criticizes execution of Iranian juvenile

Finland criticizes execution of Iranian juvenile Helsinki - Finland on Friday criticized the recent execution of an Iranian woman who was sentenced to death for a crime she allegedly committed as a juvenile.

The Finnish views were conveyed during a meeting at the Finnish Foreign Ministry with the Iranian ambassador to Finland, the Finnish Foreign Ministry said.

Delara Darabi was executed by hanging on May 1. She was convicted of the 2003 killing of a relative when she was 17.

Finnish Secretary of State Pertti Torstila also urged Iran not to execute two other minors facing execution, and cease to use the death penalty, the statement said.

The Finnish statement noted that international conventions ban the execution of people convicted of crimes under the age of 18.

Human rights group like Amnesty International have also criticized Iran over executing minors. (dpa)
