Facebook launches video chat in association with Skype

Facebook launches video chat in association with SkypeInternet service provider, Facebook yesterday launched a new video chatting in association with popular Internet calling service, Skype.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder and chief executive said during a new conference at the company’s headquarters that the new feature will allow users to connect with their friends in a new way, beyond messages and posts. “It’s so easy, so minimal to use,’’ he said.

The new video calling service does not allow users to make a group vide chat, a feature offered by Google in its newly launched, Google+ social networking project. Many see the move by FAcebook as simply playing catch to Google’s service, which was created a lot of buzz online.

The users can start video chat on Facebook by clicking the button on chat list on a friends profile page. The users will have to download a plug-in to make and receive calls. The new feature will be rolled out to users in the coming weeks, and now it is available on facebook. com/videocalling.

Zuckerberg also claimed at the conference that Facebook has crossed 750 million users worldwide.
