Eurozone youth unemployment rose to 23.8 per centAccording to the latest data released, the total youth unemployment level in the countries that make up the Eurozone have risen to 23.8 per cent.

The data showed that the prolonged debt crisis in the Eurozone continues to impact the jobs market with young people being affected the most. The overall unemployment rate in the euro zone rose to 12.1 per cent in May compared to 12.0 per cent in April, according to Eurostat, which is the European Union's statistics office.

While, the youth unemployment was double at 23.8 per cent as more than 3.5 million people under the age of 25 were unemployed. The jobless rate in most affected countries of Spain and Greece was as high as half of those counted. The unemployment level for the region rose due to an increase in the level in Ireland, Spain and Italy.

The data showed that 17 members of the common currency area have higher unemployment rate than the previous year while ten countries have been able to bring down their unemployment rate. The data also shows that there is a huge disparity among the countries in the region.
