ENN drops plans for Nevada solar project
ENN Mojave Energy LLC has said that it has dropped plans for proposed major solar project near the Colorado River resort town of Laughlin.
ENN Mojave Energy has informed Clark County officials that it is terminating its agreement for acquiring 9,000 acres of land at the site for the project after it was unable to find customers for the power to be generated at the site. The project was expected to cost about $6 billion and would have created 2,200 permanent jobs after completion. County officials said that the project was expected to boost the local economy in the region.
Tim Carlson, senior vice president of ENN Mojave Energy LLC said, "We are writing to inform you that ENN has not obtained the required (Power Purchase Agreements). Unfortunately, the market will not support a project of this scale and nature at this time."
ENN Mojave Energy, which is a unit of the ENN Group, said that it was unable to sign the necessary power purchase agreements for selling its energy with utilities in Nevada or in other nearby states. The company was first planning to build a solar panel factory but alter decided to build a solar energy plant 90 miles south of Las Vegas, which was expected to generate enough energy for 200,000 homes.
