Double Fine’s “Trenched” to alter Tower defense games
Double Fine’s new shooter / tower defense game “Trenched” is set to offer a new approach to Tower Defense (TD) games by allowing users to take part in the action rather than just be a spectator, after strategically placing shooting towers.
The players take the role of a gargantuan Mech known as a “Trench” and have to go around destroying other creatures on the battle field. The develop is aiming to combine the two genres into something fresh and enjoyable.
Trenched begins with a tank crushing the legs of Frank Woodruff, who is then reassigned to a post listening to enemy radio waves with his partner Vladamir Farnsworth. The enemy radio waves kill everyone but the two, who become intelligent due to the broadcast.
Frank invents the “Trenches”, allowing soldiers to fight from a mobile platform. Vladamir, on the other hand, invents a crazy monstrous race named the “Tubes” aiming to spread the broadcast. The players are then given the control of Trench to defend various locations from Tube attacks.
The game can be described as a third-person shooter game that offers a great online multiplayer experience. On the other hand, the single player mode is entertaining and engaging in its own way.
