DoT-Telcos Meet Ends With No Solution

DS MathurNew Delhi: A conference between telecom chiefs and DoT secretary, DS Mathur, on Wednesday, to take a decision on spectrum remained questionable with rival factions trading charges.

A senior DoT functionary told, “No decision has been taken, but we hope to reach a settlement soon. We have called for another meeting in the next few days.”

A source said that the plethora of tough issues impelled Mr. Mathur to meet the telecom chiefs individually to listen their arguments.

Mr. Mathur has quested GSM operators to take out petition from TDSAT.

COAI has confronted administration’s tightened subscriber rules for allocating spectrum and its crossover spectrum plan.

According to an agency report, Mr. Anil Ambani, Reliance Communications chairman has lifted the issue of additional spectrum being held by GSM operators.

The report also said that Mr. Ambani questioned that how spectrum beyond the contractual agreement of 6.2 MHz was given to GSM players.

A few operators have also demanded LoIs for fresh licences be issued immediately. They also reasoned that administration has granted more than 50 LoI’s during last two years under the same plan.
