Dhoni jumps to sixth spot in ICC ODI rankings

Dhoni jumps to sixth spot in ICC ODI rankingsDubai, Sep 19: India captain M. S. Dhoni has moved up the order in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Player Rankings for ODI batsmen after producing a player of the series performance in the recently-concluded five-match series against England.

Dhoni finished the series as the leading run-getter with 236 runs at an average of little under 79.

For this achievement, he has been rewarded with a jump of three places which not only puts him in sixth position, but also makes him the highest-ranked Indian batsmen after Virat Kohli dropped three places to ninth position after scoring 194 runs in the series.

England batsman Jonathan Trott, who scored 111 runs in the series, has improved his rating by six points, which has helped him leapfrog Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara into fourth position.

Both Dhoni and Trott will be aiming to further climb the ladder when they go head to head in the five-ODI series, which starts in Hyderabad on October 14.

While Dhoni last topped the batting chart in June 2010, Trott is enjoying his career-best ranking to date and is also in his qualification period.

A batsman qualifies for full rating after a minimum of 40 started innings and to date Trott has 34 started innings in 35 appearances.

Suresh Raina's 198 runs in the series has provided him a jump of five places to 30th spot.

Ravi Bopara's effort of 197 runs in the series has earned him a leap of 14 places and puts him in 64th spot. (ANI)
