Detroit on a kill in India?
The American made machines were mainly considered as fuel guzzling ones for many years before GM & Ford realized the potential of the Indian small cars market.
In fact, both the players on track to achieve record sales this year on the back of products like Beat by GM and Figo by Ford. While GM launched Beat in December last year, Ford followed it up with the launch of Figo in March this year.
GM's Beat complemented the Spark and hence did the right trick in enhancing the volumes of the company and on the other end; Ford Figo has received an impeccable response in the Indian market. In a span of just five months, the product has booked its 25,000 units of the Figo.
There is no denying to the fact that the aggressive pricing of Figo has taken the market by storm but Beat is also doing quite well in the domestic circuit.
It is to be mentioned here that GM has formed a joint venture in Hong Kong last year with its Chinese partner, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, who now owns 50% share in GM's India operations.
