Derryn Hinch to Undergo Another Surgery
The radio broadcaster Derryn Hinch, 67-year-old will be undergoing ERCP or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, a minor surgery, due to a blockage found in his bile duct. The patient was going to be discharged after his recovery from the liver transplantation operation, at Austin Hospital, but the doctors detained the procedure.
The liver transplant surgeon Graham Starkey revealed that the blood test reports of Mr. Hinch reveal that his lower bile duct did not function properly. This problem was quiet common with the patients who underwent a liver transplantation.
In the surgery, a telescopic camera will be inserted through the mouth, by a gastroenterologist, which will pass from the stomach to the duodenum and will clear the blockage in the bile duct. The entire process will take about 60 minutes; the problem was not major one as there could be a possibility of a minor blood clot in the bile duct, said Dr. Starkey.
The head of the Austin Hospital's liver transplant unit, Professor Robert Jones, revealed that there was a probability, that the body of Mr. Hinch may not be able to accept the new liver and that there was 10 to 15% chances of his cancer relapsing . The patients was not worried with his second surgery as he was found tweeting Prime Minister Julia Gillard about carbon tax and updated about his minor operation too be commenced.
