Dengue Toll Crosses 800 Mark
After detection of 14 new dengue cases on Monday, the number of dengue cases has exceeded the 800 figure mark in national capital. Dengue fever is a common concern in Delhi after monsoon season. It is caused by the bite of the female aedes aegypti mosquito. Its main symptoms are high fever, skin rashes and joint pain. Sometimes a sharp drop in blood platelet counts due to the disease could be deadly.
MCD Public Health Committee Chairman V K Monga said: "Total cases of the dengue-hit persons reached 822 today, with 14 fresh cases in Delhi."
Delhi health Officer Dr. N. K. Yadav said: "All necessary steps are being taken and we are trying our best to reduce further spread of the disease in the capital."
Dr. Monga added that the situation is expected to improve in the coming days. As compared to last year, the virus is well within control and if the weather continues to be favourable, it would wane very soon.
Only two people have lost their lives due to dengue this year as compared 14 deaths last year.
