Delhi High Courts IGI refers noise pollution petitions to NGTThe Delhi high court has referred a set of petitions claiming that the noise pollution created by the aircrafts at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is affecting the health of the residents, to National Green Tribunal (NGT).

A bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice V K Jainobserved, "Considering the provisions of the Environment Protection Act, the Environment Protection Rules and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules as also the definition of noise pollutants given in the Air (Prevention and Control) of Pollution Act, it can hardly be disputed that these petitions involve a substantial question relating to environment."

The bench also said that if the level of noise from the terminal-3 of IGI Airport in Vasant Kunj, Brijwasan and other areas is found to be higher than permitted levels than violations of the Environment Protection Act might be questioned. The bench said that petitions relating to the matter fulfil the requirements of section 14 of the NGT Act.

The court has received petitions form the residents of Vasant Kunj, Bijwasan and a super speciality hospital, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) located near the airport. The petitions urged the government to take steps to control the level of noise pollution from the aircrafts at the airport.
